The North Scott Dance Marathon is a fundraiser that brings awareness for diseases that affect children, by raising funds for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. This event does not just include a ton of dancing, but there are also many additional activities that take place throughout the dance marathon. For example, a variety of acts were performed in last year’s NSDM which involved “more than 100 students took part in the 11-hour event that featured an appearance from Miss Iowa, Taylor Wiebers, as well as talks by six area families whose lives have been impacted with their involvement with Children's Hospital” (NSP). In addition, lots of money has been raised from the NSDM to go the the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. In this case, many people from the North Scott area have contributed to finding a cure for diseases the past three years. More than $18,000 has been raised total, discluding the money that was raised for this year’s NSDM that is still being determined (NSP). Also, high schoolers of all ages are part of the leadership team for the NSDM and spend a lot of their time into planning the event. For instance, all the hard work paid off in the end because North Scott junior, Heather Hoeger stated that “it felt great to be a part of an event that was focused on helping those in need. I put so much time and effort into this event and it felt awesome at the end of the night when I saw everyone in one big circle, holding hands. It made me feel great seeing all the people join together to help those who are in need.” The North Scott Dance Marathon is a great way to bring awareness for diseases that have a disastrous impact on children and their families.
